The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;      
It rains,and the wind is never weary;        
The vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,        
  And the day is dark and dreary.

날은 춥고, 어둡고, 쓸쓸하다
비가 내리고, 바람은 지치지 않는다
담쟁이덩굴은 여전히 퇴락하는 벽에 매달려 있으나
바람이 몰아칠 때마다 죽은 잎들이 떨어진다

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;        
It rains,and the wind is never weary;        
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
  And the days are dark and dreary.

내 삶은 춥고, 어둡고, 쓸쓸하다
비가 내리고, 바람은 지치지 않는다
생각은 여전히 퇴락하는 과거에 매달려 있으나
젊음의 희망은 바람 속에 우수수 떨어진다

Be still, sad heart, and cease repining;      
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
  Some days must be dark and dreary.

슬픈 마음이여, 불평을 그만하고 진정하게
구름 뒤에 태양은 여전히 빛나네
그대의 운명은 모든 이에게 공통되는 것
누구의 삶에게든 비는 내리게 마련이네
어둡고 쓸쓸한 날이 있기 마련이네.
