The Finality of a Poem

All day, that         종일, 말하자면
is forever,            영원히,

they fall, leaves,   그것들이 떨어진다, 나뭇잎들이,
pine needles,       바늘 같은 솔잎들이,

as blindly as        아무런 뜻 없이
hours into hours   시간에 시간이 흐르듯

colliding,              서로 부딪히며,
and the chill         그리고 차가운

rain?what else     비 - 뭘
do you expect       기대하나

of October??        10월에? -
spilling from one    이 지붕에서

roof to another,      저 지붕으로 흘러내리는,
like words from      이 입에서 저 입으로

lips to lips, your    옮겨다니는 말들처럼,
long incertain        당신의 긴 불확실한

say in all of this     말, 이 모든 것 속에서,
unsure of where    카메라가 어디 있고

the camera is        조명이 어떻게 비치는지
and how the light   잘 모른 채

is placed and what 끝나가는 게 정확히 뭔지
it is that’s ending.   모른 채.

"당신의 긴 불확실한 말"은 이 시인의 말 즉, 이 시를 가리키는 게 아닐까 합니다.

"이 모든 것 속에서"는 번역하다보니 뒤쪽에 걸리는 것처럼 되었지만 원문엔 앞쪽과 더
연결이 되는 것 같습니다. 즉, 이 모든 것 속에서의 '말'이란 뜻입니다.

카메라와 조명은 뭘 빗댄 건지..
